Man Asks Factory Owners To Remove Carpets Littering The Street, Ends Up In Hospital

Dinesh was passing through a market when he asked owners of carpet-making units to free up the street a bit for commuters. The owners - all Muslims - gathered a mob of community members and beat him up badly

Even as international ‘freedom watch’ agencies and so-called rights activists are running a narrative that the Indian ‘majority’ is carrying out (one-sided) attacks on the country’s Muslims, the ground reality is starkly different.

Last month in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district, a Hindu man was beaten up by a large crowd of Muslims in a market over a petty spat. The victim, Dinesh, had to be hospitalised for several weeks.

Dinesh told Rashtra Jyoti that he was passing through a street full of carpet-making units, that are largely owned by the Muslim community. As the carpets littering the streets were not giving him enough space to ride his motorcycle, he called out to the unit owners to remove them and give the commuters some space.

The owners however did not take kindly to the objection. Over this petty matter, they gathered a crowd that proceeded to beat him up badly, he says.

The incident happened on 14 February 2021. A first information report (FIR) was registered at Fatehpur Sikri police station the same day (number 24/2021). The FIR was registered on the complaint by Dinesh’s father Omprakash while Dinesh was in a hospital.

The FIR names 22 people as accused. As per latest reports, a total of 10 people have been arrested so far including Sanjay Usmani, Vakeel, Iqbal, Akbar, Asgar, Ramjaan Usmani, Sabhasad Idrees, Shanno and Sultan.

See the statement in the FIR below:

List of suspects/accused as mentioned in the FIR:

As per the complaint, Dinesh was first dragged toward the godown owned by the prime accused – Akbar, Firoz, Ramjaan, Shakir and Sultan – and then beaten up with bare hands and hockey sticks. The accused also molested Dinesh’s sister. To further scare the family, the crowd pelted stones at their house. Dinesh’s family with a pistol and stone pelting, the complaint says.

The police booked the named accused under IPC sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 342, 452, 307, 354, 354(B) and 506.

As per Dinesh, at the heart of this violence is the local Muslim residents’ insistence on continuing their dominance over Hindu residents. Though the area is Hindu populated, Muslims own large businesses and are much richer than the Hindus, says Dinesh. The Muslims wield social as well as political influence in the area.

“They [Muslims] did this to show their dominance and establish fear in the local populace,” Dinesh told Rashtra Jyoti.

“They escalate petty matters into full-blown violence so that a message is sent out to the larger Hindu community in the area,” he said.

Dinesh says he was hospitalised for weeks but is recuperating now. He has suffered considerable monetary loss due to his hospitalisation and offs taken from his workplace.
